In the vast majority of cases, investing in loans is free of charge to us, investors.
It is typically the borrower that pays some origination fee to the loan marketplace for connecting the borrower with the investors and helping raise capital.
This makes investing in loans truly unique because we don't have to worry about the fees charged by the loan marketplaces.
There are some cases, however, when fees apply. These are the most frequent ones:
- Sell or purchase of loans on a secondary market.
- Currency conversions. To avoid this and additional risks, we typically say it's better to invest only in EUR-denominated loans.
- Withdrawals from a marketplace. This applies rarely, but some loan marketplaces do charge symbolic fees for withdrawing capital.
In general, the fees are very individual to each loan marketplace, so we encourage you to check out their individual rules in case you are interested in investing in them.
Just remember, as long as you stick to basic investing, you will be free of any fees in 99% of the cases.
